There’s nothing like green to ease the mind and heal the soul. The colour of nature, we’re increasingly bringing calming greens into our homes, from the coolest apple white to bright pea green, dark forest green and even avocado. Yes, you heard that right; avocado is back!
Once considered the height of bad taste, avocado has thrown off its dodgy 70s reputation and is finding its way into our bedrooms, sitting rooms and even bathrooms. A colour that fades gracefully into the background, avocado is easy to live with and in our books that has to be a good thing.
Introducing a hint of yellow into classic olive green, avocado casts a warm golden glow and helps us recreate the sense of serenity and wellbeing we find when we spend time outdoors. Along with its sister shades artichoke and sage, designers are increasingly rediscovering the versatility of avocado to add depth to warm neutrals, colour drench with moss green and chartreuse, or contrast with apricot and sky blues.
A chilled out hue on the warmer side of the colour wheel, avocado works well with both wood and stone design floors. Whether you want a cool colour palette for a sunny space or are looking to add warmth to a shadier room, here are a few of our favourite floors to pair with avocado.
Keep it cool
In sunny spaces where you want to create a light airy mood, a grey based wood or stone flooring will highlight avocado’s cool olive tones. From our wood ranges, try the sun-bleached driftwood effect of Lime Washed Oak or the prominent rustic grain of Weathered Heart Pine.

Turn up the heat
Alternatively, if your preference is for a warmer colour palette, picking out the yellow hues of avocado with a floor that has a red base tone will create a cosy atmosphere. Look to wood designs such as the delicate golden sand of Savannah Oak. With its neutral earthy colouring, Terra is a sophisticated travertine stone option that is sure to bring avocado bang up to date.

Add pattern
If the decadence of maximalism is your thing, why not create visual interest with abstract or geometric patterns. Look to the non-uniform, patchwork shapes of our Marrakesh design from our Opus collection for a stunning geometric visual.
