Tips from the Table: Blending Products to Create a Salvaged Look

Posted on the 20/04/2017 by Karndean Designflooring

It’s no secret that salvaged and reclaimed looks are dominating the market at the moment, and floors are no exception. We carry a number of designs and colors that exemplify this trend. Many of these looks pair well together, meaning you can create a unique look for your project without the typical custom lead times and costs. You can create a look that not only stays on budget, but is practical, durable and easy to clean in busy commercial settings.

The hospitality industry loves the barnwood look, and you can take this design one step further by blending our Reclaimed Redwood VGW99T and Salvaged Redwood VGW101T, as shown below.  This is a stylish option if your client is concerned that the Reclaimed Redwood is too gray. Alternatively, if your client loves the gray look, you may want to pair Salvaged Redwood with our Aged Redwood VGW100T.

In an office environment with a mid-century modern influence, you may want to infuse the floor design with rustic elements, to bring variety and visual interest to the space, as shown below with our Blended Oak RP95Beach Driftwood RP101 and Double Smoked Acacia RP105. Each of these products is from our Da Vinci range, featuring 36” x 3” planks for a traditional size in contemporary designs.

Looking for a rustic floor to match Scandinavian style? We suggest blending Limed Linen Oak RP98, Limed Cotton Oak RP99 and Coastal Driftwood RP100 to achieve the light, natural Scandinavian look with just a hint of gray. This look works well in multifamily applications, as it helps to hide foot traffic and dust in common areas.

A recent trend we’ve been seeing in retail applications is rustic patchwork. The advantage of this look is that it gives the design continuity, and allows you to stay a little more traditional, with just a hint of gray, as you can see below with our combination of Pale Limed Oak KP94, Mid Limed Oak KP96, Classic Limed Oak KP97 and Aged Oak KP98.
